let's get right to the charged up start to holiday shopping. online shopping is already up 20% on thanksgiving day and black friday. what will cyber monday bring? john schriffen joins us from toys "r" us in times square. >> reporter: good morning, george. many retailers save some items to entice shoppers to go online. that is for people who have a holiday spending budget left. we saw record numbers this weekend, along with those wild fights of people grabbing anything in sight. this morning, the dust is finally settling from the holiday discounts and the door-busting dustups. from this brawl near sacramento that spilled out of a victoria's secret store. to full-on melees like this one in a texas mall that had chairs flying and police dogs brought in to break it up. there were plenty of shoppers fighting for deals.

police say is a shoplifter even died outside this georgia walmart, possibly after being put in a chokehold by a security guard. still, it turns out, along with all the brawls, there was an awful lot of buying, too. the national retail federation says a staggering 247 million shoppers hit stores and websites to cash in on savings over the long weekend. up 9% from last year. nearly two-thirds of those shoppers went to stores or hit the web on black friday. >> this is my first black friday shopping. yeah, it's probably my last. >> reporter: and while department stores bested online sales over the weekend, this morning as black friday becomes cyber monday, experts predict a spike in online shopping but retailers offering deep discounts on the internet, just as workers return to their desks. experts say it's important to do your homework today, if you see a deal, grab it. the limited supplies, it might not be there the rest of the season.

now here at toys "r" us, they started cyber monday early yesterday. they have some of the hottest toys right now at 70% off. amy? >> and so much safer, it looks like. thanks so much. so, was the holiday weekend, the boost that the u.s. economy needed. abc's bianna golodryga is here. good morning, it's not just the thrill of finding a great deal. take a look at this. consumer spending makes up 70% of the u.s. economy and 40% of that will happen in just these two months, november and december. so how did we fare over the past two days? not too shabby. $59 million spent. the average american in the past four days spent some $423. interesting to note, though, that black friday sales were actually down nearly 28% this year compared to last year. why? well, i guess a lot of people excused themselves thursday night from thanksgiving dinner, went out to the stores shopping. overall, we're expected to see a 4.1% increase from last year.

that is very good news for the u.s. economy. of course, thanksgiving came early this year. we'll see if americans continue the spreading spree up to christmas. amy? >> it's all about having more days to shop. bianna golodryga, thank you so much. let's head to josh elliott with the other top stories developing right now. >> the holiday travel weekend as come to an end, but not without major scare for passengers flying from st. louis to cincinnati. a disaster averted in the final moments. a pinnacle airlines flight was cleared by air traffic control on its way for a landing when a pilot noticed another plane still on the runway. just ten feet from touching down, that pilot pulled up at the last second. the other plane was supposed to have cleared the runway. it is not clear why it hadn't. we'll have an update as news warrants. and a developing story overseas. thousands of people, many who make the clothes we buy here in the u.s., are protesting unsafe working conditions in bangladesh today. forcing hundreds of factories to close. they are demanding justice for

124 people killed in a fire over the weekend at the factory you see here which makes clothes for a company that supplies walmart and target, among other retailers. there were no emergency exits and no fire escapes. and workers who did survive were told to ignore the fire alarm and get back to work. and a crisis growing worse for a key ally in the middle east, egypt. protests there have turned violent, with police firing tear gas at crowds, furious that president mohammed morsi has declared total power over the courts system there. now, he insists the move is only temporary, but several of his top advisers have now resigned and today in response egypt's stock market plummeted. meanwhile back here at home, a critical link between new york and new jersey has reopened. four weeks after hurricane sandy. you'll recall the video you see here, water gushing into the

p.a.t.h. commuter train system. submerging tracks and stations. well, crews have finally finished pumping out millions of gallons of water that rushed in. but four weeks later, about half of the buildings near wall street shut down because of flooding still aren't open. many are home to large financial and law firms and could be closed for months because of electrical damage. and officials now say human error caused this massive gas explosion in springfield, massachusetts, friday. a utility worker accidentally punctured a pipeline while looking for a leak. 18 people were hurt. most of them gas workers. finally, it appeared to be another afternoon of football yesterday. dolphins and seahawks took the field in miami. and something happened. something i have never seen before. the sprinklers coming on in the middle of the game. you will notice, sunny 70s. so really -- nobody cared. after all, it was miami, sunny and 70s.

type. such as facebook's cheryl sandberg. and michelle flournoy would be the first woman secretary of defense but kerry may have the edge. >> the new strategy is to bore our enemies to death. >> reporter: and george, a possible political drawback for picking senator kerry is it opens up the seat once thought to be reliably democrat. but the senator says that's not necessarily the case. >> the senators i spoke to on "this week" are pretty optimistic about getting a deal. but the staff meeting all last week during that holiday didn't bridge very many gaps. >> reporter: no, all the reporting i have indicates there really hasn't been any tangible progress made. of course, nothing has dissolved, there's been no blowups which is good news. but as of now, they are still miles and miles apart, george.

>> reporter: good morning. some stunning numbers in this study. it's a part of america. a new study looked at emergency room data across the country to determine how many kids are getting injured in how many inflatable bouncers. >> oh, my gosh. oh, my gosh! >> reporter: watch as this inflatable slide goes airborne. there's children inside, then crashes down on a crowd. >> i couldn't even get up. i fell so hard. >> reporter: 13 people were injured, including children. the most serious cases typically from bounce houses that weren't tied down. take a look at this house that flipped due to strong winds and wraps around a pole. it's just the kind of startling videos the thors authors of a new report about these inflatable amusements want parents to consider. researchers say from 1990 to 2010, more than 64,000 children were sent to the e.r. due to injuries of these air-filled playhouses. last year, the study, the

average of 31 children were hurt each day. most of the injuries came from children falling down or running into each other, resulting most often in broken bones and sprains to the arms and legs. but there are other areas of concern. >> they did see that 7% of the children had concussions. and we really worry about head injuries. in particular, in young children. >> reporter: the study, just out this morning, suggests better design may prevent injuries. and says there should be better guidelines for using them safely. it's obviously important to make sure that bouncy houses are properly tied down. one other thing that parents can do, make sure kids of the same size are in the bouncy house at the same time. the study is published in the journal of pediatrics. >> that makes a lot of sense. okay, bazi. thanks very much. now, to the rolling stones, strutting on stage to kick off their 50th anniversary tour.

ahead from alicia keys. she is with us live in times square. she is a girl on fire. >> sure is. album comes out tomorrow. she's playing here today. let's get right to that bombshell in the casey anthony case. dan abrams standing by to weigh in. here's rob nelson with the latest on that evidence that police never found. good morning, rob. >> jose baez first revealed some of what is being described as missing evidence right here on "gma" in july. but this morning, it appears that police and prosecutors are finally breaking their silence. >> we, the jury, find the defendant, not guilty. >> reporter: this morning, abc news has learned that the sheriff's office that investigated the case admits it missed strange internet searches made on the anthoniy's home computer, the last day caylee was seen alive. the searches apparently were never discovered by investigators because they were using a web browser. >> on the day that caylee died, someone on the anthony home

computer ran searches an hour after george said they left the home. >> reporter: someone searched the term "foolproof suffocation." and in his book, "presumed guilty." part of the defense was caylee drowned in the family pool. one reporter is saying that the missed computer records are an oversight and a learning experience. and something that baez told us overnight he doesn't believe. >> this evidence didn't help the prosecution in any way, shape, or form. it's no surprise to me that it was not presented at trial. >> reporter: baez now says the evidence could have helped his case because the incriminating searches were made after prosecutors contend they left the house. >> what is significant is that there was computer activity. you have a serious problem if you're the prosecution, and that is that she's home and she didn't leave at 12:50.

>> reporter: now baez says, had the searches been revealed in court, they would have called into question the testimony of anthony's father. meantime, former prosecutor jeff ashton reportedly now says, quote, a shame that he didn't have the evidence. >> we'll talk to dan abrams about all of this. it may be a shame that the prosecutors didn't -- >> a shame? it's bigger than a shame. it's a huge piece of evidence. >> this won't get her back into court. >> casey anthony could confess and it wouldn't change anything. she could come forward and say, here's how i did it, here's why i did it, here are the details and she still couldn't be tried again because of double jeopardy basically says you cannot be tried twice for the same crime. >> looking back, hypothetically, could this have made a difference? >> it could have, i don't think it would have. there was a lot of evidence presented at trial about comp e

computer searches that she did. now, she searched allegedly for chloroform, neck breaking, other incriminating things. for those, the defense had a response, either it was her mother doing it, you can't show that it was her on the computer doing it. while this is an even bigger bombshell than any of those, i think that this jury still would have found her not guilty. there was definitely proof beyond a reasonable doubt, if you wanted to find it there, to convict casey anthony. i don't think that this particular piece of evidence would have changed this particular jury's mind. >> final question. such a high-profile case, how do you explain how the invest garrets missed it? >> you can't, particularly in a high-profile case, right, where the world is watching where you want to cross the ts and dot the is to make sure you do everything right, the notion that there's a huge piece of evidence that the defense knew about was missed by law enforcement is embarrassing and shameful. and i think is going to lead to them rethinking how they do what they do. >> and obviously, defense under no obligation to bring it forward? >> absolutely, no. the defense doesn't have to give

prosecutors any sort of evidence. >> dan abrams, thanks very much. and now to the fallout from the holiday brawl at the halle berry house. both men landed in the hospital. her exboyfriend was forced to stay away from her and her daughter. cecilia vega has the story. >> reporter: this morning, halle berry's ex is nursing a black and blue shiner. these new photos of gabriel aubrey show what a knockdown, dragout fight he had with berry's fiance, olivier martinez. aubry faces the misdemeanor battery charges. it comes in the midst of a contentious custody battle between berry and aubry, and now, according to tmz, berry could be heading to court as early as today to ask a judge to extend a restraining order put in place after the brawl.

baby egypt has given to you? >> i believe the baby has given me the confidence. egypt has opened my eyes and my spirit and my heart to so many see motions and things i never could have accessed before. that's why i think i'm able to find an even more beautiful place to write from, create from. >> you have this album that you're giving back. i understand you're doing a concert at madison square garden december 12th to help the victims of sandy. >> yes, we are. i'm big on that. obviously, this is my city. new york city, what we went through recently is very difficult for so many. and my other organization, keep a child alive, helps me understand how much we should understand each other. on the 12th we do for sandy. on december 6th, i do a concert for keep a child alive at the apollo and i'm very proud to be a part of the city. >> thank you for your generosity
